@Sullivan...precisely, with respect to keeping her on the rail. In the MG it looked like she had a nice line on the rail, not sure why she was pulled off...I think that cost her. Just not sure why there's so much emphasis on having her go to the outside...I get doing that if you've got a clean line to do so, but doing it in traffic to the point of having to retreat, just doesn't make sense to me. I'd like to see Calvin Borel on her

wyndabbey.why didn't you make this post after the oaks in florida when she won by 22 and opened all eyes.i'm sure your next highly anticipated post will probably be that joel rosario should be tossed as Orbs' jockey.don't let me down. i am counting on you.

I'm reading through all the threads... The horse wasn't herself... Bad ride... Change the jockey... Maybe the horse is being overrated based on one race... Just another opinion...

anne, thank you.that is the perfect respose and my point . whether it be the media or the fans. the need for a so called superhero tends to blur our vision.there is nothing wrong with being a very good horse.enjoy her for what she is.we all know she has talent.maybe that talent will come out as a 4yo.maybe it won't. but to always keep comparing her to the top 3yo fillies is unfair to the real top fillies. as cab said, P.O.S had a worse start in the Oaks,she was behind DOJ and she beat her. but DOJ is a very nice filly,she is not a bum. many think she will redeem herself in the alabama. i do not.although she has a long frame suited to distance horses,she does not look that she carries the right weight to go a longer distance.maybe the answer could be to shorten her up to a mile or even a sprint distance.after all, when right. her biggest asset is her speed.

I've never thought much of her, but I don't think this was her best effort either. Changing anything isn't the way to fix that I'm afraid.

So looking past about half of your post which was all you putting words in my mouth, Joel didn't lose the derby, And the jockey as you said tends to get blamed. Maybe he could've done a few things better but in the end it didn't matter. Rosario is a slightly better for because he likes to take horses back on the rail, a perfect place for DOJ. Working in company might help -- I think Dressage is onto something about running inside of horses

Hopefully Todd will reach the same conclusion I have and fixes it (if that is the problem, which I believe it is). Maybe enter her in an allowance to gain back confidence before hitting the Alabama Stakes. I think 10f will be very much so to her liking

@Dressage... You make a good point...It definitely could be a problem for right now... Thanks for offering a possible reason for her performance and not an excuse... I get so tired of reading the excuses people make for their favorite horse losing... Having said that, we should never be mean-spirited towards the opinions of others... I get tired of reading those too...

Based on her PPs, I'd say that DOJ is a need the lead type, or that she at the very least needs to be pretty well glued to the pacesetter. Any race in which she's been further back than 1 1/2 lengths at the 1/2 mile call she has lost. The races where she has been on the lead or closely pressing the pace, she has won. Granted, getting slammed out of the gate in the KO probably shook her up; she was only 2 lengths back at 1/2 mile call in the MG, but Johnny said she wouldn't go through the hole. She definitely needs some work if she doesn't like to run inside horses, though.

Tmallios -- again you are the person on the spot with the right assessment. The horse has been annointed as the second coming based on one race in which she freaked, jockey was a mere passenger that day. When the horse (and she's proved to be incredibly unreliable) doesn't show up, it's the jocks fault. after the race, JV said the hole was as big as the Grand Canyon and she wouldn't go through it. Let's face it, she's a nice horse -- not a great horse (based on one albeit great performance).

thank you cab,for at least someone is thinking with logic and common sense.i laugh that when you make the points it is accepted as conversation.when i make them,i am trashing her.maybe you have a better bedside manner.i find it hilarious that the public adopts certain horses.because of this,they feel they must be better than the others so that their worship can continue. i make the same points about ORB. Oxbow hated the derby surface.did you hear Lukas or anyone else involved with the horse come out and make excuses? NO , they just regrouped and came back to not only beat the derby winner in back to back races. they beat everyone else in both ,except palice malice who was afresh horse in the belmont.their is nothing wrong with being a very good horse.with ORB and DOJ, it is a sacrilage to question their superiority and greatness. now i will expect the trashing,why don't you repeat my post.maybe then we might get honest and fair and unbiased opinions.

I would agree with the part about having a particular liking for the Gulfstream track if not for her prior victories at Saratoga and Belmont. As for PofS's KY Oaks victory...I simply cannot account for it other than she was obviously much the best that day. Like DOJ, she was taken out of her race, too, at the start, but she still managed to somehow win. The only time in her career that she had been further back at 1/2 mile call was in her debut when she was trailing by 11 1/2 lengths and only finished 4th.

i heard from many,contrary to many beliefs that are foolish.that he ducked wise dan at CD on derby day.he sat out because the turf condition was awful.yet on belmont day,in front of the track the owners helped establish,they ran him on a turf just as bad.i am not pointing fingers,never had.they know their horses.but why is the option valid for 1 instance and not the other.

Florida -- I agree with you, she appears to be a head case. Her fans are the ones coming up with these insane excuses when she gets beat. She did get slammed in the KY Oaks, however at the 1/2 mile pole she was ahead of the winner, POS, whom also was shaken up at the start. So, it was inexplicable the suggestions that she lost because of the start, which in essence was diminishing the performance of the winner, who in my opinion was much the best on the day. All we can ask is: let the horse prove it on the track -- enough of the lame excuses every time she gets beat. Perhaps she has an affinity for that often "souped-up" Gulfstream Park main track.

sure did sullivan,why is johnny v. getting the blame.please tell me why a post like that should be treated kindly.you want rosario up.the same guy who the many of the public has destroyed in blogs for getting orb beat in the preakness and derby. read my lips.you do not get better than johnny v. ,if you think he is not up to it. then you are on your knees praying. i guess what i am saying is that if they win it is all horse.if they lose it is all jock.if johnny v. was responsible for her loss.maybe he was the one responsible for her super speed figure.maybe the horse did not do as much as we thought.

cab .the same with shug.i was a very harsh critic of his for running in the belmont. he did not need to.even if the owners pushed him to do so.he should of said no and convinced them.when in his illustrous hall of fame career,have you seen him run a top race horse 3 times in 5 weeks.only easy goer.

Shug probably left himself open for a little bit of criticism -- even he admitted though that he caught "triple crwon fever". The triple crown races are sire-making races and you only get to run them once in a horse's career, so I didn't have problem with him running in the Belmont. Particularly, coming in I saw no world-beaters. Your point on PoE is well-taken, even before his run on Belomont Day, I thought he wanted no parts of Wise Dan by scratching at CD. That feeling was confirmed on Belmont Day although the horse did come up injured out of that race, so maybe Shug's original apprehension was well founded -- his inconsistent decision-making notwithstanding..

i have an idea.let us put her in a race similar to the derby and belmont where todd platcher has 5 horses in the race.restrict the race so that only 1 other horse trained by someone else can enter and run.let todd give all of his jocks instructions to allow julia to break clean and allow her to settle.let her position herself anywhere on the track she feels comfortable.when she is finally clear at the top of the stretch.then the other jocks riding for pletcher will have the go ahead to try and catch her.one last thing,make up some bogus name for the race and place a grading on it.god forbid julia runs for no reward.i think that would satisfy all involved.
