The induction ceremony for the newest Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame members will be held at the Mississagaua Convention Centre August 6th at 6:00 PM. They always hold an open auction to raise money and this is OPEN to the pulbic. Some of the tenative items up for auction will be halters worn by both Wise Dan and Lexi Lu, Woodbine's "starting gate experience," breeding seasons to Silent Name and possibly Some Beach Somwhere, a framed Secretariat Kentucky Derby program, Vintage entrance poster to Churchill Downs and many others that are going to be added at the next Hall of Fame meeting in late July. All are welcome to the auction even if you just visit. Lots of big names in the racing community regularly attend.

Local news this morning reports that BOTH horse and rider were killed this morning in a training accident. Details of the name are being witheld at this time. The report stated that the animal suffered an apparent heart attack and crashed into a fence. More details as they become available

Our thoughts are with his family. The Ministry of Labour and other officials are investigating to determine the details of the accident, and Woodbine Entertainment Group is offering every possible assistance. The horse he was exercising, Tawney's Wish, had a suspected fatal heart attack. "We are working closely with officials to support them in their investigation," said Jamie Martin, Executive Vice-President Racing for Woodbine Entertainment. Group. The second most under appreciated group at any race track (behind the assistant starters at the gate) have to be the photo patrol camera operators. Wind, rain, snow, hot muggy days or what, these peolpe have to climb 40 to 90 feet UP into small cramped quarters (and they have to stay there from 6 to 8 hours...NO bathroom) all the while fighting the elements. In stiff winds these towers rock back and forth. On days when there are several turf contests, some of the camera people habe to scurry down, run over to the other turf station, climb up just for a single race. The camera itself is subject to the elements: humidity requires clearing fogged lenses, rain comes in, as the sun goes down they have to constantly re do their while balance as the sun creates a yellowish tinge to the images. THere is little room up there and almost nothing to do in between contests. I climbed up in the apex and tried one and it is difficult keeping the field properly balanced against the graphics that are to be put over their image, and HARDEST OF ALL is keeping the field IN FOCUS all the while they are either coming directly AT you or Away. They have to keep the entire field (barring straglers) in the frame all the while being concerned about that focus......ANd, sadly, they are miserably paid for this work. Oddly many a laid off TV cameraman/woman have taken these jobs as more and more robot cameras are being used in live TV broadcasts. TORUGH JOB and people should know about them.

oddity pointed out by one of the broadcasters TWO animals ran today with the same name different spellings. Harte to Harte in the first, and Hart to Hart in the fifth. Neither one hit the board but we did have a $112 winner in the nightcap

Essence Hit Man was scratched last out after he threw his exercise rider in the backside and the horse ran wildly around before being haltered...He pulled somthing to the point he was scratched....He is still in training and should run, IF a race comes up, before the end of the meeting in mid December...Also found out that the QUeen's Plate winner came up lame, not severely, after that race, was rested and is in Florida where he will start in a few weeks.

Someone is government has reel hard on to destry racing here...A signifiant amount of monies generated by the Slots at Race Track Prgram (some 41 million)have "disappeared" We wonder why so many of the old school top brass turned in their resignations over the year.

buckpasser · While Mohawk, Woodbine, Grand River Raceway etc. Saw improvements, other tracks like Kawartha, Windsor etc. Were allowed to run down terribly even though they were receiving a decent percentage of the revenue for capital improvements. Frankly, one could look at the NYRA and ask where is all the slots revenue going? Some capital improvements at Saratoga etc., but Aqueduct looks like the 1950's still and Belmont could use some work. · 4347 days ago

travel_vic · The place was widely flooded by Monday as rains continued. The East gate to the backstretck was a lake with water up to the top of the doors of most cars and several people floating around in an inflatiable. The horses in many barns were standing up to their knees IN THEIR stalls but liuckiily the retention barn and the standardbred barns were empty to take those animals OUT of that enivronement for the time it takes to drain that water. We have, normally, four lakes in the infiled but as of Wednesday night, they were so deep that each one had overflowed into the next to make one gigantic lake.....The tunnel under the track where the maintenance vehincles get out to the surface, were flooded half way up..we werr OF COURSE off the turf course Wednesday evening and unles there is a lot of sun, we may be Friday as well. · 4455 days ago

Saturday and Sunday will have a great racing everywhere and I can't wait! Not just here but at Calder, Evangaline, and Belmont but the sad part isi it's the final weekend at Hollywood Park ever.

I f the big casino goes into the city of Vaughn, the track will have fewer and fewer casino visitors,,,,IT IS NUTS HERE, completely nuts when a venue zoned for gambling, set up for gambling, has the managment expereinced in gambling is turned down for expansion...Completely nuts.
