I havent watched much racing yet from Los Alamitos, whats been the reaction from the owners and trainers on the track? Good review or bad? And dose it seem to be a pretty fair track so far?

travel_vic · I'll bet you this camera crew is green and not used to the day to day...We have that trouble with new camera operators all the time not keeping the entire field covered, lagging behind the pace setters, out of focus when haeding INTO or AWAY from the camera.....New track configuration first day...It happens · 4097 days ago

Los Alamitos Race Course

Watching today's races the first thing this new configuration reminded me of was the LONG skinny tight turned old Sportsman's Park. The clubhouse turn at Los Al, FOR YEARD NOW have served the same function: to run out the straightaway runs of the q-horses, or, the run out from the ultra short 4.5 f sprints that went around a single turn. THIS was the first time, ever, that this turn was used to run over and you could see how inexperienced the riders were in going wide race after race. EITHER the local colonyis going to have to adapt quickly, OR they are going to have to seriously look at how tight that turn is. Reminds me als a bit of that same turn at Hastings where ANY Horse outside of post 6 is doomed in trying to get the lead at that turn. We will see but inside speed there gets a boost.

It's official, The California Horse Racing Board on Thursday approved the transfer of the Fairplex Park meeting at the Los Angeles County Fair to Los Alamitos starting in September, a decision that ends 71 years of live racing at the Pomona racetrack.

Sullivan · Sure, but the shrinking foal crop is a result of years of foreign interest that inflated it beyond sustainability. Now the boom tracks from the '30s are getting hit, and we will eventually end up with a subsidized racing, which is not bad. Laura Hillenbrand claims it is the only way for racing to maintain a healthy standpoint. I would think that besides regional tracks, horse racing will eventually circulate throughout only the major venues, akin to what we had, albeit briefly, in the roaring '20s. But hey, I'm up for another Man O' War, Exterminator, or Grey Lag anytime. · 4112 days ago

goblin · I meant to respond to this earlier, but was away from the computer. I can't find anything that says it won't be Ed Burghart. In the comments section on a Paulick Report article, someone says "he will call races there until he can no longer speak". That's just anecdotal, but I don't find anything to the contrary. · 4131 days ago

Did not realize the speed of the track expansion there from the old 5/8ths to the mile. I should be ready in the new year EARLY. I am amazed that it finally was undertaken

Buckpasser · Los Al is looking to do a top tier job so that they can get more TB and much of Hollywood's schedule where it will be too hot to comfortably race at Santa Anita, at least this is what the TVG commentators were saying. TV. It was undertaken because 1) Los Al was going to be a prime candidate for stabling and race expansion when HP went down and 2) they had been pressing the CHRB for more TB dates. The addition of TB dates will go well for Los Al if the TB community take their snouts out of the air and not look down on Los Al and realize if they don't start getting it together, CA racing is going the way of the dodo. · 4288 days ago
