HE'S BACK!! Jockey Frankie Dettori will be in the saddle again for Thursday's card at Meydan for day 3 of the 2014 Dubai Carnival after a late season injury forced him to miss the ride on Treve in the Arc back in October after having ridden her to success in the G1 Prix Vermeille in September. Glad to see Frankie returning to action!! The Dubai Carnival doesn't seem the same without him in the saddle.

Frankie Dettori

Jockey Frankie Dettori took a bad spill in a handicap at Nottingham earlier today and suffered a fractured ankle. Unfortuneately for Dettori, he's now out for the rest of the season and will miss his intended ride on the highly talented filly Treve in the G1 Prix De l'Arc de Triomphe on Sunday. Horrible luck for Frankie, as Treve figures to be one of the Arc favorites. I personally wish him all the best for a speedy recovery. He admitted to and battled his demons earlier in the season, taking his spension like a man, and he looked to be on his way to getting back to that old riding form we've seen so many times over the years as one of Europe's top big money riders.

Frankie Dettori says he's nervous about the reception he'll get on his planned return to race riding at Leiceister on Monday evening. Speaking for myself, Frankie Dettori is certainly not the only jockey who's had drug and alcohol issues in the sport. Kent Desermoux's had a very long and publicized problem with drugs & alcohol himself over the years just to name an example. Dettori made a mistake, admitted it, took his punishment like a man without any belling aching or appeals, and now he's ready to return to the sport that's been so good to him and that he's been so good for, for many years!! All the best to Frankie Dettori on his return to racing.

MarcelloMarocco · Some Jocks can over comer their personal issues and return to do great things. Look at the greatest Jock Lester Piggott. He was jailed for a year and returned to win a BC mile, and then a few years later a 2000 Guineas. I am quite confident that Frankie will bounce back. · 4511 days ago

I'm not at all suggesting the 6 month ban he received wasn't fair and warranted, but I have to say it seems really strange to see another Dubai Carnival rolling along without Frankie Dettori out on the racetrack for Godolphin. I guess I've gotten use to Dettori on the Godolphin horses knocking heads with Christophe Soumillon on the Mike De Kock horses being sort of one of the sub-plots at the Carnival each year. This year's Dubai Carnival was supposed to have been Dettori's swan song and farewell riding for Godolphin, but I guess it's gonna turn out to be the riding he did for Godolphin over the summer and fall in Europe being his last for the boys in blue.

Six month ban in France with request to international racing community to honor. Frankie said he is determined to get back in the saddle and rebuild his reputation after the ban. Lets hope he reaches out to get help and support to address substance abuse during his ban.

This story comes from the page of AtTheRaces.Com: After being retained by Sheikh Mohammed to ride for th e operation for 18 years, Frankie Dettori is leaving Godolphin. He rode 9 English Classics winners. He rode Dubai Millennium to the 2000 Dubai World Cup title, and 110 other individual Grade or Group 1 winners for the operation. Godolphin's racing manager, Simon Crisford, says Dettori is simply looking for a fresh challenge. But I don't buy that. The higher up's at Godolphin have been treating Frankie Dettori like the fat girl at the dance since they retained both Mickael Barzalona and Silvestre De Sousa to ride for the stable full time at the end of the 2012 Dubai Carnival. It's a shame he's been treated that way, too. Because while Barzalona and De Sousa are both obviously talented young jockey's with bright futures ahead of them, Frankie Dettori is still one of the best big money clutch riders to have in a big race in the sport, IMO. In a major G1 stakes, I'd take Dettori to ride my horse over Barzalona or De Sousa any day of the week and twice on Sunday!!

Possibly a little dissension among the ranks at Godolphin these days? On the front page of Wednesday's AtTheRaces.com web-site, there a photo of Frankie Dettori with an awfully disgruntled looking expression on his face. Along with a caption that reads: Frankie Dettori can no longer expect to take all of the "big race rides" as #1 jockey for Godolphin said Simon Crisford, Godolphin's racing manager. Godolphin signed both Mickael Barzalona and Silvestre De Sousa to contracts during to ride full time for the stable back during the Dubai Carnival during late winter-early spring. The recent disharmony stems from Barzalona being given the mount on their filly, Kailani, who will be the lone Godolphin representative in Friday's G1 Epsom Oaks. Leaving Frankie Dettori without a mount for the Oaks. Both Barzalona and De Sousa are both outstanding young riders, IMO, and certainly Frankie Dettori isn't getting as young as springtime these days. But in your top level, major G1 stakes races, there's still very few if any that are more clutch than Dettori is. So yeah Simon Crisford. Makes perfect sense to piss off the one jockey who's won more major stakes races riding for Godolphin that Barzalona and De Sousa will likely accumulate between them in the next 15 or 20 years.
