JV had a nice payoff today, winning the 8th race @ Gulfstream, paying $38.40 to win. Also in this race was a deadhead for 2nd. Yesterday at Gulfstream, the 6th & 8th races also had a deadheat for 2nd. That's three races in the last 22 @ Gulfstream, have had a deadhead for 2nd. Wonder what the odds would be of that happening?

A day after his surgery, Johnny V is resting. According to Darrell Haire manager of the Jockeys Guild- JV didn't have much color, and initially the medication didn't agree with him. He'll be in the hospital for at least a few days.

kay.robinett · TV describes morphine well. I was once admitted to the hospital in a lot of pain and they gave me morphine IV push. I still felt the pain - I just didn't care about it for a few hours. I send prayers up for his quick recovery and send him lots of good wishes. · 4340 days ago

i was just looking at some stats for this years jockey colony. i realized that Johnny V. is having a tremendous year so far. The standard and rightfully so has been Joel Rosario. Everywhere you turn, joel is winning stakes races. but in looking at the comparisons closer. rosario has earned (12.6 million on 774 mounts ) the big dubai payday is not included in that total. what makes Johnnys' year so amazing is that he has earned 9.1 million on only 470 mounts. he also missed more than a month due to the shoulder injury. also as impressive is that he no longer is the exclusive jock for arguably the strongest stable in america. that would be todd pletcher. he now shares mounts with castellano.

Man.... My son and I were at Gulfstream today. I had Cigar Street 100 dollars to win and 50 dollars to place. Afterwards, I was walking with my son (we were leaving GP) and Johnny was walking in front of us. My son said "Dad look Johnny V!" We talked to Johnny for a little and got his autograph. Such a fantastic person, and rider, my wallet sure loves him.

3/9/13 was another great day for Johnny! One of the best riders I have seen in my life. Day, Dominguez, Jacinto, Turcotte, Maple, BAILEY, Eddie D, etc are up there of course.

Jockey of 2012 top two: John Valazguez and Mike Smith Winner for me: John Valazquez. He has impressed me with almost every horse he throws his leg over, and is just a great jock in general. Mike Smith is my all time fav, but he made a few bad mistakes this year that dropped him down on my list. Honorable mentions: To many to name! one jockey that has moved up through the ranks who is calm and quiet and lets his horses work is Mario G. His rides in the KD and PS were none other than stellar, and he let his horse work. He didn't try to do to much, but rather ran his race.

John Velazquez, on his first mount back (4th aboard Lucky Friend in the 5th Race at Saratoga on Wednesday) after breaking his collarbone in a spill at Churchill Downs on June 16: “I was a little bit anxious to be out there. Once I got there, it was very good. It’s wonderful to be here and happy. With the way the fans reacted, it was very nice. [Physically], I felt very good. Actually, I am better than I thought I was going to be after the race. I greatly appreciate the way the fans reacted. I am happy to be here. It feels great to be here.”
