Jmac you say im bad for this site and the sport. The man who changed the sport forever D Wayne Lukas and who taught so many top trainers how to train, 95% of the users on this site hate and wish he would just retire and are disgusted with how he handles horses. It sickens me to think when Lukas dies that all of you will be dancing on his grave laughing and cheering hes gone and horse racing is better off without him.

In the opening weekend at oaklawn Lukas had 8 runners and went 1-1-3 with thoes 8 runners thats a good start in my book to the year. Also his 1 win was claimed away from him lol

I may have been the only one who noticed since I havent seen anyone else say it but in my eyes this year 2013 was a huge up and a great resurrgent of the sport of horse racing I think we saw a many fan come back the the sport. 2013 gave new hope and new life to racing lilke no other year ever has and has been my personal favorite year of horse racing since I saw cigar run live. We say shug win a derby, lukas win a preakness with come back kid stevens, curling the most dominat horse since cigar show hes just as good at stud as he was racing, 3 repear breeders cup winners, America finally take down the dubai world classic on its new synethic surface, Lukas back on top the 3 year old market, stellar battles between 3 year olds and there elders longshot graded stakes winner, calumet farm back in the spotlight with another champion, paynters amazing come back story next to garys, and many top horses remaining in training for 2014. All in all i saw 2013 as a huge win for horse racing and 2014 should be just as good if not better.

UnionRagsRules · I live by a very very small track in Southern Oregon and it is one of the few tracks in th state... It's only a hlaf mile around, and the purses are onlt 3,000 at best. But we all come together for a month and a half during the summer and watch the horses run. It's the ONLY time I get to see horse racing, due to my busy barrel racing schedule. But I love it. Now, on the contrary, they are trying to shut it down, and have been for the best 10 years. But still it lives on. Because it is not so big that it needs a lot of money (like Hollywood Park) to keep it alive. They put in new surface to make it better. In a roundabout way, I come to my conclusion. Big times racing and races will live for hundreds of years to come. But everything else will die in time unless we get a super horse. Some horse gentically enhanced to be so much better than the rest that horse racing draws attetion to itself. Who's our horse? · 4280 days ago

Buckpasser · One of my issues with Lucas is not only that he has run so many nice horses into the ground, but he has brought so many quarter horse racing methods into thoroughbred racing which has not been beneficial to the sport. Wayne Lukas is a much bigger man than I for accepting Eric Guillot's half-assed apology about the Travers debacle, especially when he concluded it with: "I looked it over; it was a bad video. But I'd do it all over again. I thought that's what the complaint department was for." Clearly Guillot has not learned anything from wasting tens of thousands of dollars and hours on this farce. Here's hoping Will Take Charge goes out and thumps Moreno again on Saturday!

When it was over, Lukas had his 13th classic victory, and in doing so rewrote the book on how to train a horse for the Belmont. After that victory, trainers began to follow suit, resting their horses after the Derby and going straight to the Belmont. Unfortunately for Jon, he jumped-off Oxbow to ride WTC...if memory serves. I know I sound like a broken record, but this reminds me so much of Tank's Prospect. Gary Stevens got replaced, after a lack-luster derby performance, by Pat Day and the Tank won the Preakness in record time (not counting Big Red's disputed Preakness time). · 4519 days ago

Buckpasser · Thanks Sword. I pulled out my Media Guide for the Preakness which goes up to 2003 and has all of the charts from 1873 on. From a cursory look, it seems that the KD has always had more starters than the Derby. First Preakness 7 starters. Smallest field 2 in 1884 and 1889. If you throw out the times when the Derby and Preaness were run on the same day and before the order of the TC was settled in 1932, the Derby seems to attract a larger field, for instance Citation had 6 starters in the Derby and 4 for the Preakness. Majestic Prince had a small Derby field and the same number in the Preakness. As I said my book only goes through 2003 for I parison. · 4568 days ago

travel_vic · YOu win it multiple times by flodding the entry box....in the 2004 Throughbred Times Almanac, old Darrel Wayne had entered, TO THAT POINT, 41 with a 4 1 5 record and the only one close, H.J. THompson was about half that total at 24, and HE won it 4 times as well...Seems this fellow had a much better record of win to start ratio. · 4568 days ago

Thats right dwayne 1-2 in rebel. I knew I just knew for weeks he had a real barn of 3 year olds. I spend most my time following his horses building them up rooting them on and it finally payed off. Hope you guys start to realize he aint as bad of a trainer as you think and that he cares for his horses. He has the 3rd best barn of 3 year olds this year for the derby road. And he aint done he could get more in. Red Wings will run in spiral and then maybe bluegrass. Channel Isle is slated for la derby and titletown five in sunland derby. Beware of the Lukas train. yessssssssssssssss im so happy

digidot · Its Lukas's training practices that need help, how is a horse supposed to strengthen its bones if you never work them at race speeds? He seems to like to work his horses in the 1:02 range for 5/8ths and :50's for 4/8ths, that leaves the horse completely unprotected from the impact that will be experienced during an actual race. · 4624 days ago

Ok people leave dwayne lukas alone! Hes been training his whole life he knows horses better then anyone. You may not like the races he picks for his horses or how he runs his horses but people are still sending him horses and havent yelled at him for running there horses in the races he picks. Hes a legend and you need to respect that and hes still very sane. If he wants to put a turf horse on the dirt let him. I never here people complain more about a horses switching surfaces and running in the wrong race more then dwaynes horses.
